Bisley is a compact, linear village in Surrey, situated roughly four miles west of Woking along the A322. It is famously home to the National Shooting Centre and the headquarters of the National Rifle Association, which occupies a vast tract of heathland to the south and west; because of this, the sound of the ranges is a characteristic, albeit occasional, backdrop to local life. Historically, much of the village was owned by the London Necropolis Company, and a distinct Victorian character remains in the older brick cottages scattered along the main road. Today, the village heart is centered around the village green and the primary school, with life largely revolving around the Sports Pavilion and the local pubs. While it feels distinctly rural due to its proximity to the Special Protection Areas of Bisley and Pirbright Commons, it remains a practical location for those needing fast rail links, with Brookwood station just a mile or two down the road providing 35-minute services into Waterloo.
