Tamworth sits at the confluence of the rivers Tame and Anker in south Staffordshire, historically positioned as the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Mercia. This heritage is still visible today in the imposing red sandstone walls of Tamworth Castle, which overlooks the landscaped grounds of the Pleasure Grounds. Geographically, it is exceptionally well-connected, sitting right on the intersection of the A5 and M42, which makes it a practical base for those working in Birmingham or Coventry. The town is split between its historic core and more modern residential developments that expanded during its time as an ‘overspill’ town in the mid-20th century. Locally, life tends to centre around the Ventura Retail Park and the Snowdome - the UK’s first full-sized indoor ski slope - while the nearby Tame Valley Wetlands and Middleton Lakes provide a quieter, natural escape just a few minutes from the urban centre.
