Gateforth is a charming village located near Selby in North Yorkshire. Its name derives from the Old Norse "gat" meaning "road" and "ford" meaning "ford", suggesting it was once an important crossing point over the River Derwent. The village itself dates back to at least the 11th century, with a number of historic buildings still standing to this day, including St. Helen's Church, which dates back to the 14th century. Today, Gateforth is a peaceful and picturesque place to live, with plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation in the surrounding countryside. Additionally, it boasts excellent transport links to both Leeds and York, making it a convenient location for commuters.
