Luton is a large town in Bedfordshire, positioned about 30 miles north of London in the Lea Valley. It sits on the edge of the Chiltern Hills, meaning you don't have to go far to find open chalk downland, though the town itself is densely urban and built heavily on the heritage of the hat-making industry. While the Victorian factories that once defined the streets have largely been converted or replaced, the town retains a distinct industrial character. Geographically, it’s a major transport core; the M1 runs right along its western edge, and three railway stations provide direct links to the capital and the north via the Midland Main Line. Most people know it for the international airport, which sits on a plateau to the south, but locally, life tends to revolve around the diverse neighborhoods stretching from the more suburban north towards the busier, commercial centre. It is a place that feels very much like a crossroads - functional, hardworking, and exceptionally well-connected to the rest of the country.
