Walthamstow sits at the end of the Victoria line in North East London, bordered by the vast wetlands to the west and Epping Forest to the east. Historically a rural Essex village, it grew rapidly during the Victorian era, leaving behind street after street of distinctive Warner-built terraces. Today, life tends to revolve around a few key hubs: the High Street, which hosts one of the longest outdoor markets in Europe; the Village, with its medieval church and quiet, narrow lanes; and the Blackhorse Road area, where old industrial units have been repurposed into workshops and taprooms. It is an area defined by its contrast between busy, functional commercial zones and large patches of green space, offering a distinct sense of place that feels separate from the glass and steel of central London despite being only twenty minutes away by train.
