Speke sits on the southern edge of Liverpool, bounded by the shore of the River Mersey and defined largely by its transformation from a rural estate into a vital industrial and residential hub. At its heart lies the Tudor timber-framed Speke Hall, a stark, historic contrast to the nearby John Lennon Airport and the sprawling retail and business parks that drive the local economy today. The layout is dominated by mid-20th-century urban planning, with wide roads and plenty of green space, originally designed to house workers for the massive factories that once flanked the area. While much of the heavy industry has evolved into pharmaceutical and logistics sectors, the geography remains practical; it’s an area where the city starts to open up, offering straightforward access to the Runcorn bridges and the motorway network, all while being just a few miles from the city centre.
