Rothwell is a traditional Northamptonshire market town situated about four miles west of Kettering, perched on a ridge that overlooks the Ise Valley. Locally known as ‘Rowell,’ it is defined by its long history as a trading hub, with the expansive market square and the ornate 16th-century Market House serving as the town’s focal points. Most of the town’s daily life revolves around the High Street and Bridge Street, where you’ll find a mix of independent shops and essential local services. Historically, the town was a major centre for the shoe industry, and while that era has passed, it has left behind a landscape of distinctive Victorian brickwork alongside much older ironstone buildings. One of the more unusual local landmarks is the bone crypt housed beneath the parish church of the Holy Trinity, which is one of only two of its kind in the country. Geographically, it is well-placed for those who need to travel around the Midlands, sitting just off the A14, which provides a direct link to the M1 and M6, while the nearby rail station in Kettering offers a steady connection to London St Pancras.
