Kettering sits in the heart of the Nene Valley, positioned roughly eighty miles north of London with a history deeply rooted in the Victorian boot and shoe trade. Geographically, it serves as a practical hub for the East Midlands; the A14 bisects the town, and the railway station provides a direct link to St Pancras International in about an hour. While the industrial chimneys have mostly disappeared, the town’s heritage is still visible in the red-brick terraces and the spire of St Peter and St Paul’s Church, which has dominated the skyline since the 15th century. Locally, life tends to revolve around a mix of the old and the new, from the traditional market heritage to the sprawling Wicksteed Park on the south-eastern edge - one of the oldest leisure parks in the UK, gifted to the town by Charles Wicksteed in 1921. It’s a place of steady growth, surrounded by pockets of ancient woodland like Rockingham Forest, offering a balance between functional urban living and quick access to the broader Northamptonshire countryside.
