Ibstock sits in the heart of the National Forest in North West Leicestershire, roughly halfway between Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Coalville. It is a large, working village that grew significantly during the industrial era, largely built on the seams of coal and the high-quality clay that still fuels the famous local brickworks. Today, the village retains a strong sense of independence, with a long High Street that hosts a variety of small shops, a community college, and a surprising amount of green space nearby. You can walk out of the village and quickly find yourself in the Sence Valley Forest Park, a reclaimed colliery site that has been transformed into a quiet expanse of woodland and lakes. While it has practical road links to the M1 and A42, and sits within easy reach of Leicester and Derby, the village manages to keep a self-contained, unhurried character typical of the old mining settlements in this part of the Midlands.
