Coventry is a city defined by its resilience and its central position in the Midlands, lying about 20 miles southeast of Birmingham. It is perhaps best known for the distinct remains of its medieval cathedral, which stands as a shell next to the 1960s replacement after the wartime blitz reshaped much of the city centre. This history has left the city with a mix of brutalist architecture and pockets of timber-framed heritage, particularly around Spon Street. Geographically, it’s a practical hub; the West Coast Main Line means you can be in London in about an hour, and the proximity of the M6 and M42 makes it well-connected for those travelling by road. While it was once the heart of the British motor industry, today the local economy is largely driven by its two universities and a growing focus on green technology. It remains a city of human scale, where the residential suburbs quickly give way to Warwickshire countryside on the southern and western edges.
