Broughton sits on the ridge of the Lincoln Edge, just a few miles northwest of Brigg and within easy reach of Scunthorpe. It is a place shaped by its geography; the village is famously flanked by the extensive Broughton Woods, a remnant of ancient woodland that offers miles of walking trails and a distinct sense of separation from the industrial landscape of the Humber. History here is quietly layered, with the village mentioned in the Domesday Book and the Anglican church of St Mary's retaining a notable Anglo-Saxon stair turret, one of only a few in the country. Life in the village centres around a useful row of local shops, a primary school, and a couple of pubs, while the surrounding farmland keeps the setting feeling rural. While the nearby M180 provides straightforward connections for those travelling across the region, Broughton manages to retain its own pace, grounded by its elevated position and its proximity to the Roman Ermine Street, which still dictates the local road layout today.
