Acrefair sits on the northern slopes of the Dee Valley, a village built on the steep gradient between the market town of Wrexham and the vale of Llangollen. It is a place defined by its industrial bones, once a hub for the Monsanto chemical works and various brickworks, though today it is much quieter, consisting largely of residential streets that offer clear views across the valley toward the Berwyn Mountains. The village is bisected by the A539, which serves as the main artery connecting it to the nearby A5 and the larger road network. Perhaps its most significant landmark is the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct; while the structure itself is often associated with neighboring Trevor, its massive stone piers and the Llangollen Canal define the lower boundary of Acrefair, anchoring the village within a UNESCO World Heritage site. Life here is practical; there are local primary schools and a handful of small shops, but for major amenities, residents tend to look toward Ruabon or Wrexham, both of which are easily accessible by road or the frequent bus services that run through the village.
