North Leigh sits on the high ground above the Evenlode Valley, just three miles north-east of Witney. It is a long, linear village, traditionally divided between the older area around the Grade I listed St Mary’s Church - notable for its late Saxon tower - and the later development at New Yatt. The local landscape is defined by its proximity to the ancient woodland of Wychwood Forest and the site of one of Britain’s largest Roman villas, which sits in a peaceful spot down by the river. For day-to-day life, the village remains well-served by a primary school, a traditional pub, and a post office, while the proximity to the A40 and Long Hanborough station provides straightforward links to Oxford and London. It’s a practical location that manages to feel tucked away, retaining a strong sense of its own identity separate from the larger market towns nearby.
