Westerham sits on the edge of the Kent Chart woods, right where the North Downs meet the Vale of Holmesdale. It’s a busy town built around a sloping green, with the River Darent rising nearby and cutting through the valley. Historically, it served as a significant market hub on the road between London and the south coast, a heritage still visible in the mix of red-brick and timber-framed buildings that line the high street. For those who spend time here, the landscape is the real constant; you can walk from the town centre straight onto the Greensand Way, looking out over the Weald. It has a solid sense of community anchored by its independent shops and the statues of its two most famous residents, Winston Churchill and General Wolfe, overlooking the green. While it feels thoroughly rural, its position just off the M25 makes it a practical base for getting across the southeast.
