Wellington is a traditional market town in Somerset, tucked into the Vale of Taunton Deane between the Brendon and Blackdown Hills. It sits just off the M5 and a few miles west of Taunton, which makes it well-connected, yet it manages to maintain a distinct, self-contained character centered around its wide High Street and independent shops. The town’s history is inextricably linked to the Fox family and their textile mill, which produced the serge used for British military uniforms for generations - an industrial heritage still visible in the architecture of the Tonedale area. Above the town, the 175-foot Wellington Monument stands on the hill as a landmark visible for miles, commemorating the Duke of Wellington who took his title from the town. Residents tend to spend their time between the restored Basins nature area and the Victorian-style Wellington Park, while the presence of a local cinema and a variety of sports clubs provides a steady rhythm to life here that feels grounded and genuine.
