Daresbury is a small village in north Cheshire, located just south of the Manchester Ship Canal and roughly midway between the towns of Warrington and Runcorn. It stands as a quiet, rural pocket within a busy part of the North West, largely defined by its red sandstone architecture and its connection to Lewis Carroll, who was born at the local parsonage. Despite its historical character, the area is an important hub for modern science; the Daresbury Laboratory and the surrounding Science and Innovation Campus sit on the village’s edge, making it a focal point for high-tech research. Geographically, it is split between the old village centre and the newer developments around the science park, with the A56 providing a direct link to the M56 motorway. This makes it an exceptionally practical base for anyone commuting across the Mersey or toward Manchester and Liverpool, though it manages to retain a distinct sense of separation from the larger urban sprawl of Warrington.
