Chacewater sits in a valley about five miles west of Truro, tucked away from the main A30 and the coastal traffic. It’s a village shaped by the local mining history; you can still see the old engine houses of the Wheal Busy site nearby, and the landscape is criss-crossed with trails popular with walkers and cyclists. Life here tends to center around the long main street, which is home to a surprisingly good range of essentials - a local shop, a bakery, a surgery, and a primary school - saving frequent trips into the city. The village has a strong sense of its own identity, separate from the more tourist-focused spots on the coast, and while the railway line runs right past the village, the station itself is long gone. It’s a practical, lived-in place that serves as a quiet jumping-off point for both the north and south coasts.
