Cwmrhydyceirw is a long-established suburb of Swansea, sitting on a gentle slope north of the M4 and just west of Morriston. Its name is Welsh for "valley of the stags' ford," though today the landscape is defined more by its residential character and proximity to the DVLA’s landmark headquarters. Historically, the village grew around the local stone quarries and the tinplate industry that once dominated the Swansea Valley, and you can still find older, traditional terraced clusters tucked between the more modern housing estates. It is a practical spot for those working nearby, with the sprawling Morriston Hospital site just a short walk to the north and the retail parks of Llansamlet a ten-minute drive away. While the village has grown significantly in recent decades, it retains a distinct local identity centered around the primary school and the nearby park, offering a quieter, elevated position that looks out toward the surrounding hills while staying closely connected to the city's main transport arteries.
