Sitting on the ridge just north of Swansea’s city centre, Brynhyfryd - which translates from Welsh as ‘Pleasant Hill’ - is defined by its steep geography and far-reaching views over the Bristol Channel. Historically, the area grew rapidly during the nineteenth century to house those working in the nearby copper works of the Landore valley, and it retains much of that traditional terraced character today. It functions as a practical crossroads between the urban centre and the northern suburbs, centered around the main junction where Llangyfelach Road meets Brynhyfryd Square. While it is primarily residential, its position is particularly convenient for those needing quick access to the M4 or the Liberty Stadium. Local life tends to revolve around the small cluster of independent shops at the square and the local primary school, all of which sit within walking distance of the larger retail parks down in the valley.
