Linton is a quiet, well-established village in South Derbyshire, positioned just on the edge of the National Forest. It sits a mile or so south of Swadlincote, bordering the village of Castle Gresley, and serves as an elevated spot with views that stretch across the Trent Valley into neighbouring Leicestershire and Staffordshire. Historically, the village was shaped by the local coal mining industry, though today it retains a much more rural character, surrounded by younger woodland areas like Foxley Wood that have reclaimed the former industrial landscape. The village layout is centred around Main Street and Hillside Road, where you’ll find the primary school, the local pub, and the red-brick Church of St. Holy Trinity. While it feels self-contained and benefits from several public footpaths that cut through the surrounding countryside, it remains a practical location for those needing to reach Burton upon Trent or Ashby-de-la-Zouch via the A444.
