Solihull sits in a transition zone between the urban sprawl of the West Midlands and the rural expanses of Warwickshire, anchored by its historic motto, *Urbs in Rure* (Town in the Country). Strategically located at the heart of the motorway network, the town is bordered by the M42 and the A45, providing direct access to nearby Birmingham Airport and the National Exhibition Centre. While its origins as a medieval market town are still visible in the timber-framed buildings along the High Street and at the 13th-century St Alphege Church, the modern town is defined by its extensive public parklands, such as Brueton and Malvern Parks, which offer a buffer of green space unusual for such an economically active area. It functions largely as a regional hub for industry and retail, most notably as the headquarters of Jaguar Land Rover and home to the Touchwood shopping complex, yet it manages to retain a quieter, more residential character in the surrounding suburbs of Shirley and Knowle.
