Greylees sits just a couple of miles west of Sleaford, occupying the site where the Rauceby Hospital once stood. While many of the original Victorian asylum buildings were demolished to make way for the modern housing that now defines the locality, some of the grander red-brick architecture was preserved and converted, giving the area a sense of permanence often missing from newer developments. It’s a quiet, tucked-away spot, largely self-contained and surrounded by the open fields of the Lincolnshire fens. You’ll find Rauceby railway station right on the edge of the village, which provides a direct link to Grantham and Nottingham, making it a practical base for those who need to commute but prefer to live outside the main town. There’s a good amount of green space integrated into the layout, including a local woodland and a cricket pitch that serves as a bit of a focal point for the community. For shops and broader services, most people head into Sleaford, though the walk into the neighbouring village of South Rauceby is a popular route for those heading to the local pub.
