Seahouses sits on a rugged stretch of the Northumberland coast, roughly mid-way between the historic castles of Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh. Originally developed as a commercial fishing port in the late 19th century, the soul of the village remains tied to its harbour, which continues to serve as the main departure point for boats heading out to the Farne Islands. While it is undeniably busy during the summer months, the village maintains a functional, year-round life with a solid range of local amenities, including a primary school, a surgery, and a small supermarket, which many smaller coastal hamlets lack. The layout is practical; the older stone cottages huddle near the water, while more modern housing extends inland toward North Sunderland. Living here means being accustomed to the North Sea wind and the persistent cry of kittiwakes, but you also have the Northumberland Coast Path right on the doorstep, offering miles of dunes and sandy bays that remain quiet and expansive long after the day-trippers have gone home.
