Ruislip sits at the far northern reaches of West London, where the suburban sprawl finally gives way to the green belt. It is fundamentally a place of two halves: the modern convenience of the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines, which connect the town to the city, and a surprisingly deep sense of history that predates the railways. Most people know it for Ruislip Lido, a 60-acre reservoir with a genuine sandy beach and a miniature railway, but the real heart of the town is the Manor Farm site. This ten-acre cluster of heritage buildings, including a 13th-century Great Barn, serves as a reminder that this was a settled agricultural community long before it became a popular residential hub. Life here tends to revolve around the High Street, and while it has its fair share of chains, it retains a slower, more village-like pace than its busier neighbours, largely thanks to the proximity of the ancient Ruislip Woods.
