Romsey is a historic market town in Hampshire, positioned on the banks of the River Test and roughly equidistant between Southampton and Winchester. At its heart sits the Norman-built Romsey Abbey, which remains the town's focal point and a constant reminder of its medieval roots. The town centre follows a traditional layout, with its marketplace hosting regular events and a variety of local businesses that give the area a lived-in, established feel. Geography plays a large part in the town’s identity; the Test is a renowned chalk stream, and the surrounding water meadows provide plenty of natural space within walking distance of the shops. To the west lies the edge of the New Forest, while the Broadlands estate occupies a significant portion of the town's southern boundary. It is a practical location for those who need access to the nearby rail links or the M27, but it manages to retain the distinct atmosphere of a town that has evolved slowly over several centuries.
