Lying in the heart of the former mining landscape between Redruth and Camborne, Pool serves as a practical hub for this stretch of West Cornwall. It is a place shaped by its industrial past, most notably marked by the imposing beam engines at East Pool Freehold and the Taylor’s Shaft, which are preserved as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today, the locality functions as the area's main commercial artery, hosting the large Cornwall College campus and a variety of essential retail parks that serve the wider Duygy community. Geographically, it sits in a level basin beneath the prominent granite heights of Carn Brea, which provides a popular walking spot with views stretching toward both coasts. While much of the old industry has cleared, the Mineral Tramways trail now runs through the area, offering a direct off-road link for cyclists and walkers heading towards Devoran or Portreath. It isn't a postcard village, but it is a hardworking, functional center with straightforward access to the A30 and reliable bus links connecting the neighbouring towns.
