Nestled in a steep-sided valley just south of Redruth, Lanner is a village shaped by the granite and copper of the Cornish Mining World Heritage site. It isn’t a coastal town, but rather a hardworking inland community defined by the Carn Marth hill that looms over it, offering wide views across both coasts on a clear day. The village essentially follows the line of the A393, making it a practical hub for anyone commuting toward Falmouth or Truro, yet it retains a distinct identity centered around its active silver band and the local pubs. Much of the daily life here revolves around the square and the primary school, with the surrounding landscape criss-crossed by old tramways and footpaths that lead through the remnants of the Wheal Buller mine workings. It’s a place where the industrial history is still very much on the surface, reflected in the terraced cottages that cling to the slopes and the rugged, gorse-heavy terrain that characterizes the high ground above the village.
