Much Hoole sits about eight miles southwest of Preston, tucked away in the flat, fertile landscape of the Lancashire coastal plain. It’s a place defined largely by its linear layout along the old turnpike road, anchored by the 17th-century St Michael’s Church, which is famous among astronomers as the site where Jeremiah Horrocks first observed the Transit of Venus in 1639. While it feels distinctly more rural than the neighbouring suburbs of Penwortham or Longton, it is practical for getting around; the A59 runs right through the village, providing a direct link toward Southport in one direction and the M65/M6 motorways in the other. Life here is quiet and revolves around a handful of local landmarks like the Smithy Inn and the village school, with the surrounding fields still actively farmed. It lacks a traditional "high street" centre, giving it a spread-out, open feel that retains a genuine village atmosphere despite being so close to the city.
