Prescot sits about eight miles east of Liverpool city centre, serving as a historic anchor for the borough of Knowsley. For centuries, the town was defined by its world-renowned watchmaking industry and the BICC cables factory, and that industrial heritage is still visible in the narrow, winding streets and the red-brick architecture of the town centre. Today, life tends to revolve around the traditional marketplace and the recently opened Shakespeare North Playhouse, which nods to the town’s unique history as the site of the only purpose-built Elizabethan theatre outside of London. Geographically, it’s a practical spot; you have the expansive grounds of Knowsley Safari Park right on the doorstep, and the railway station sits on the line between Liverpool Lime Street and Wigan, making it easy to get around without a car. It feels like a proper town with its own distinct identity, rather than just a suburb, blending a quiet, long-standing local community with a high street that has seen a lot of independent bars and kitchens opening up lately.
