To the northeast of Nottingham, Woodborough sits in a sheltered valley where the land begins to roll toward the Trent Valley. Historically a village of framed-knitters and market gardeners, its layout is still defined by the Main Street which follows the course of a seasonal stream, known locally as the beck. Unlike some of the more uniform suburbs nearby, the village has retained its character through a mix of red-brick cottages, converted farm buildings, and the distinctive 13th-century St Swithun’s Church, noted for its fine Chancel. It remains a working landscape; the surrounding acreage is still actively farmed, providing a clear boundary between the village and the city’s edge. While the local primary school and the two pubs - the Nags Head and the Four Bells - serve as the main social hubs, the village is also known for its strong sense of community, anchored by the local village hall and a network of well-used footpaths that link the settlement to neighboring Lambley and Epperstone. It is a quiet, self-contained spot that manages to feel remote despite being only seven miles from the centre of Nottingham.
