Giltbrook sits in a busy pocket of the Erewash Valley, positioned roughly six miles northwest of Nottingham and right on the border with Derbyshire. Historically, the area was defined by its coal mining and brickmaking industries, but today it is best known for the sprawling retail park that dominates its lower ground. Despite this commercial hub, the village retains a distinct character, tucked between the larger settlements of Eastwood and Kimberley. The landscape here is varying; while the main artery of the A610 provides fast access to the M1, many of the residential streets climb steeply uphill, offering surprisingly wide views over towards the hilltop spire of Holy Trinity Church in nearby Greasley. It is a practical location for those who need to commute, but also serves as a gateway to the more rural, rolling hills of the DH Lawrence country that begins just a mile or so up the road.
