Trowse Newton, often simply called Trowse, sits just over a mile southeast of Norwich city centre, yet it retains a distinct village identity. It is uniquely positioned where the River Yare and the River Tas meet, bordering the vast expanse of Whitlingham Country Park with its broads, woodland, and dry ski slope. Historically, much of the village was shaped by the Colman family, who built many of the distinctive gault-brick cottages to house workers from their nearby mustard mill. This gives the central conservation area a cohesive, planned feel, anchored by the flint-built church of St Andrew. While the village is technically outside the city boundary, the walk into Norwich is short and direct, making it a rare example of a community that offers immediate access to the southern bypass and rural Norfolk trails while being within easy reach of the railway station and city amenities.
