Blisworth sits about five miles south of Northampton, positioned atop a ridge that overlooks the Nene Valley. It is perhaps best known for its defining engineering landmarks: the Grand Union Canal, which passes through the village before entering the 3,000-yard Blisworth Tunnel, and the West Coast Main Line, which skirts the village’s eastern edge. Historically, the local economy was driven by limestone quarrying and ironstone workings, and you can still see that heritage in the traditional golden-brown stone cottages that line the village’s older streets. Today, the village maintains a practical layout with a central primary school, a local shop, and a surgery, all within walking distance of the residential areas. While the proximity to the M1 and the A43 makes it a convenient base for those working in Milton Keynes or Northampton, the canal towpaths and the surrounding open fields give the place a distinct sense of separation from the nearby urban sprawl.
