Hadston sits about ten miles north of Morpeth, positioned just inland from the Northumberland coast. Originally a small farming hamlet, the layout of the village changed significantly in the 1960s with the development of the Hadston Precinct and surrounding residential streets, which were built to support the local mining industry. Today, it serves as a practical base for exploring the North Sunderland landscape, situated right on the doorstep of Druridge Bay Country Park. You can walk from the village center directly into the park’s three hundred acres of woodland and meadows, which surround a large freshwater lake and lead over the dunes to a seven-mile stretch of sandy beach. For daily life, the village is centered around a small shopping terrace and a community center, while the larger neighbouring villages of Widdrington and Amble provide more extensive amenities and rail links via the East Coast Main Line. It’s a quiet, functional spot where the landscape is dominated by the legacy of former open-cast mining sites that have since been successfully reclaimed by nature.
