Longhope is a long, linear village tucked into the western edge of Gloucestershire, where the Cotswolds transition into the more rugged terrain of the Forest of Dean. The village follows the valley of the Hope Brook, framed by the steep, wooded slopes of May Hill to the north and the expansive Bright’s Hill to the south. Historically, it was a place of orchards and timber, and that rural character remains; you’ll still find people working the land and traditional cider-making heritage in the surrounding hills. While the A4136 runs through the lower part of the village, providing a direct link toward Gloucester and Ross-on-Wye, the heart of the community is found in the network of lanes branching off, where the 12th-century All Saints Church and the local primary school sit. It is a working village with a reliable local shop, a couple of long-standing pubs, and a football club that has been a focal point for generations, making it feel less like a commuter stop and more like a settled, self-contained valley community.
