Llanrhystud sits on the narrow coastal plain of Ceredigion, about nine miles south of Aberystwyth where the Wyre stream meets the sea. It is a nucleated village that still feels rooted in its agricultural past, centered around the Grade II listed St Rhystud’s Church and a collection of traditional stone cottages. Unlike the more manicured seaside resorts further down the coast, the beach here is a long, natural stretch of shingle and pebbles that gives way to sand at low tide, backed by low clay cliffs and the remains of ancient lime kilns. The village is practical and self-contained, maintaining a post office, a local florist, and a primary school, while the surrounding landscape is defined by the coastal path and the steep hills of the Wyre Valley to the east. It’s a place where the weather is a constant presence, shaped by the prevailing winds off Cardigan Bay and the steady rhythm of the tides.
