Liversedge occupies a practical spot in the Spen Valley, sitting roughly halfway between the towns of Cleckheaton and Heckmondwike in West Yorkshire. Unlike its more compact neighbours, it is loosely structured around several distinct settlements like Hightown, Littletown, and Norristhorpe, which gives it a surprisingly open, suburban feel despite its industrial roots. Historically, it was a focal point of the Luddite riots in 1812, most notably at Cartwright’s Mill, a legacy that still lingers in the local architecture and street names. Geographically, it’s well-placed for those needing to get around the North; it’s just a short drive to the M62, making Leeds, Bradford, and Huddersfield easily accessible, while still retaining pockets of green space along the Spen Valley Greenway. It’s a functional area with a mix of Victorian stone terraces and sprawling newer developments, underpinned by a solid network of local schools and small, independent businesses that serve the various hamlets.
