Welton is a substantial, well-served village situated approximately six miles north of Lincoln, positioned just off the A15. It is a place defined by its sense of balance; while it has grown significantly over the decades, it retains a nucleated feel centered around the limestone buildings of its historic core and the beck that runs through the village. At its heart is St Mary’s Church and a range of local amenities, including several shops, a traditional pub, and a health centre, which allow it to function quite independently from the city nearby. Historically, the village is noted for its connection to the 19th-century mathematician George Boole, whose father lived here, but today it is perhaps best known locally for the reputation of William Farr School.
