Wike is a quiet, rural hamlet situated about six miles north of Leeds city centre, tucked away between the more bustling suburbs of Shadwell and Scarcroft. It remains one of the few places in the immediate vicinity of the city that still feels genuinely detached from the urban sprawl, largely because it lacks a defined village centre or high street. Historically, it was a small farming township, and that agricultural character persists today through the surrounding green belt land and the presence of several established livery yards. For those who know the lanes, it’s a practical spot for getting outdoors, with a network of public bridleways and footpaths leading toward the Harewood Estate. It is perhaps best known locally for its concentration of golf courses, which act as a natural buffer, keeping the area open and green while remaining only a short drive from the practical amenities of Moortown or the A1(M) corridor.
