Oakworth sits on a steep hillside in the Worth Valley, roughly two miles west of Keighley and a short distance from the moors of Haworth. Its geography is defined by its gradient; the village climbs from the valley floor up toward the higher ground of Oldfield, offering wide views across the Pennine landscape. Historically a farming and weaving community, it transitioned into a busier residential hub during the industrial era, though it retains a distinct village identity separate from the larger town below. At its heart is Oakworth Park, formerly the grounds of a large Italianate villa owned by the industrialist Sir Isaac Holden, of which only the impressive ornamental caves and glass-clad winter gardens remain visible. The village is perhaps best known for its beautifully preserved Edwardian railway station on the Keighley & Worth Valley line, which served as a primary filming location for the 1970 film *The Railway Children*. Today, it remains a practical location with its own primary school, a few local pubs, and a predictable Pennine climate that often sees the village catching the snow while the valley bottom stays clear.
