Tucked between Horsham and Crawley on the edge of the St Leonard’s Forest, Faygate is a settlement defined by its transition from a quiet hamlet to a practical base for exploring the High Weald. Historically rooted in the local iron and timber industries, the village grew more significant with the arrival of the railway in the mid-19th century. Today, it remains centered around the station and the A264, offering a functional link for those traveling into London Victoria or towards the coast. While much of the recent development has shifted its character toward a more modern residential feel, you can still find the local heart of the place at the Holmbush Inn. Living here means being right on the doorstep of extensive woodland trails, where the ancient bridleways provide a direct, rugged escape into the Sussex countryside, contrasting with the busy commercial hubs just a few miles in either direction.
