Hook is a large village in northern Hampshire, situated along the A30 between Basingstoke and Fleet. Its layout today is largely defined by its history as a stop on the historic coaching route from London to the southwest and by the arrival of the London and South Western Railway in the 1880s, which shifted the village's hub toward the station. This rail link remains a core feature of the village, providing a direct line to Waterloo that takes about an hour. Geographically, it sits on the edge of the Whitewater Valley, and you don’t have to walk far from the centre to reach the open spaces of Bassetts Mead or the riverside paths. To the north lies Hook Common and the Bartley Heath nature reserve, which offers a good amount of woodland and heathland for walking. While the village has grown significantly since the 1980s and now hosts several large business parks on its outskirts, the centre retains a practical, self-contained feel with a mix of local shops, a supermarket, and a community centre that acts as the focal point for local events.
