Codicote sits on a chalk ridge in the Mimram Valley, roughly halfway between Hitchin and Welwyn. It is a substantial village that has managed to maintain a distinct identity, centered largely around the high street where many of the buildings date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Geographically, it is surrounded by the rolling farmland of North Hertfordshire, though the proximity to the A1(M) makes it a practical spot for those needing to travel across the county. The village is perhaps best defined by its active community spaces, including the Bury - a large sports and recreation ground that hosts the annual village fair - and a handful of long-standing pubs that have served the parish for generations. Historically, it was a busy stop on the coaching route to Bedford, a legacy still visible in the layout of the village and the width of the main road. Today, it remains a self-contained community with its own primary school and local shops, serving as a quiet but well-connected bridge between the larger market towns.
