Loscoe sits on the ridge between the Erewash and Amber Valleys, effectively forming a continuous link between Heanor and Codnor along the A6007. Originally a small hamlet rooted in the coal mining industry - most notably served by the former Ormonde Colliery - the village has transitioned into a quiet residential area that retains a distinct sense of its own map borders. Much of the local life centres around the primary school and the traditional brick terraces that line the main road, while the surrounding landscape has been significantly reclaimed; the nearby Loscoe Dam is now a peaceful spot for angling and walks, a far cry from its industrial past. It’s a practical location for those who need to commute, with the A38 and M1 both within a ten-minute drive, yet it keeps a foot in the Derbyshire countryside with footpaths leading out towards the more rural expanses of Shipley Country Park just to the south.
