Harrow is a place of two distinct halves, centered around the steep incline of Harrow Hill. At the summit sits the ancient village and the famous independent school founded in 1572, where the historic architecture and quiet, narrow streets feel worlds away from the rest of the capital. Down the hill, the landscape shifts into a busy urban hub focused on the pedestrianised high street and the two large shopping centres. Geographically, it’s one of the best-connected patches of North West London, with the Metropolitan and Jubilee lines providing quick access to the West End, while the Overground runs straight into Euston. Beyond the shopping precincts, the area is defined by its extensive Metroland-era housing and a surprising amount of green space, such as the expansive Byron Park or the views from the top of the Hill that stretch right across the London skyline. It is an exceptionally diverse part of the city, which is most obvious in the local food scene, particularly the high-quality South Asian restaurants and grocers that line the streets toward Northwick Park and Kenton.
