Tucked into a sweeping bend of the Thames in the borough of Richmond, Hampton offers a quieter, more grounded pace than its busy neighbour, Kingston. It is often defined by its relationship to the water and the vast green expanse of Bushy Park, which borders the village to the east and provides miles of trails among free-roaming deer. Historically, the area grew around the river - which remains a focal point today via the local sailing clubs and the historic ferry to Hurst Park - and it still retains a distinct "village" feel centered around the hilltop church and the independent shops of Station Road. While many associate the name primarily with the Tudor grandeur of Hampton Court Palace, that landmark actually sits slightly to the east in Hampton Court; the residential heart of Hampton itself is a mix of Victorian terraces and suburban avenues. It’s a practical spot for those who work in the city but prefer to come home to the sound of the weir, served by a direct, if somewhat leisurely, train line into Waterloo.
