Halesowen sits on the edge of the West Midlands, acting as a gateway where the urban sprawl of the Black Country meets the greener fringes of Worcestershire. Historically, it was an outlier - a detached part of Shropshire until the 19th century - and it still retains a distinct identity centered around the sandstone ruins of its 13th-century Premonstratensian abbey and the ancient St John’s Church.
