St Anns Chapel sits on the high ridge of the Tamar Valley, positioned along the A390 between Callington and Gunnislake. It is essentially a hilltop settlement that grew significantly during the nineteenth-century mining boom, serving the workers of the nearby Great Devon Consol and other copper mines that once dotted this landscape. Today, the village is defined by its far-reaching views across the valley towards Dartmoor and its practical amenities, including a local primary school and a well-used football club. Life here is physically steep; the lanes drop away sharply toward the River Tamar, and the nearby Gunnislake railway station provides a scenic branch line connection to Plymouth. While it functions as a quiet residential hub, the village remains deeply connected to the industrial heritage of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape, with old engine houses still visible in the surrounding woodland.
