Meopham is often noted for its unusual geography, stretching for seven miles along a high ridge of the North Downs, which makes it one of the longest linear villages in England. While it sits just south of Gravesend and is bisected by the A227, it retains a distinct rural identity, largely thanks to its elevation and its position within the Green Belt. The heart of the village is Meopham Green, where the landmark white smock windmill, built in 1801, overlooks the local cricket pitch - a spot where matches have been played since the 18th century. Practicality is a key part of its appeal; the railway station offers a direct link to London Victoria, providing a more village-oriented alternative to the busier transport hubs in nearby Ebbsfleet or Medway. It is a community of distinct pockets, from the shops at Station Road to the older, quieter residential areas near Culversay and the historic church at Meopham Green, all surrounded by a network of footpaths that lead quickly into the Kentish countryside.
