New Rossington sits about five miles south of Doncaster, established originally as a model village to serve the inland colliery that opened here in 1912. The layout is distinct, with many of the older streets arranged in a large circular pattern known as the ‘Rossington Circle,’ which gives the central part of the village a sense of space you don’t often find in former mining towns. While the pit closed in 2007, the village has seen significant change recently, particularly with the opening of the Great Yorkshire Way link road. This has physically reconnected the area to the M18 and the wider region, making the commute toward Sheffield or Leeds much more straightforward than it used to be. For daily life, the village is self-contained with a high street of local shops and several primary schools, but it is the proximity to the iPort and the nearby Hayfield Lakes that provides a balance of modern employment hubs and open water for fishing or walking. Being on the edge of the borough, you quickly transition from the residential estates into the South Yorkshire countryside, with the historic Rossington Hall and the Northern Racing College just a short distance down the road.
